PFC Board Member Dina Brooks Named Recipient of the Enid Graham Memorial Lecture

PFC Board Member Dina Brooks, BSc(PT). MSc. PhD. has been named the recipient of the Enid Graham Memorial Lecture for 2010 by the CPA Awards Committee. Dina will present her lecture at Congress 2010 in St. John’s Nfld.

Dina, a long-standing, active member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, is also Associate Professor, Graduate Coordinator, and Acting Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. She is also the Scientific Editor of Physiotherapy Canada, Canadian Research Chair for Rehabilitation for Chronic Obstructive Disease, Research Representative for the Cardiorespiratory Division of CPA, and Chair of the Scientific Awards Committee for the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada.

Seniors’ Health Division Offers Inaugural Research Grant

To help physiotherapists increase their body of knowledge around treatment protocols for clients over the age of 65, the Seniors’ Health Division is offering the Seniors’ Health Division Research Grant in Older Adult Health. To learn more about this grant that is being offered as part of PFC’s 2010 annual Awards Program, visit 2010 Awards.

$65,000 in Physiotherapy Research Grants Available

PFC is offering $65,000 in seed funding for physiotherapy research projects in 2010 including the Paediatric Division Physiotherapy Research Grant Related to Child and Adolescent Health Issues Research Grant; Community Rehab Physiotherapy Research Grant; the NSD-PFC Physiotherapy Research Grant in the Neurosciences; the Alun Morgan Memorial Research Award in Orthopaedic Physiotherapy; and the PABC Research Grant in Physiotherapy Research in B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Renews PFC Partnership

The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada has renewed its partnership commitment to PFC and will fund a scholarship in physiotherapy research for Masters-Level and Doctoral-Level academic researchers in 2010 and 2011. The HSF / PFC Scholarship in Physiotherapy Research addresses research relevant to cardiovascular disease or stroke care and rehabilitation. For further information visit 2010 awards.

$170,000 Raised for PFC at Congress 2009

With its highly successful fundraising events to the $50,000 donation from the Orthopaedic Division and $105,000 from AON Reed Stenhouse Inc., more than $170,000 was raised making Calgary a Congress to remember for the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada (PFC). OrthoCanada’s The One-Stop Restock™ Program Off To A Good Start

Since launching the One-Stop Restock™ Program in October 2008, OrthoCanada has donated over $6,000 to PFC. OrthoCanada began the program as a way to support PFC in its efforts to fund exploratory physiotherapy research projects and scholarships. OrthoCanada donates 2.5% of the revenues generated from the sale of every-day items listed as part of the One-Stop Restock™ Program such as tape, exercise bands, hot and cold packs, pain relievers, acupuncture needles to name a few.
