RESEARCH CAMPAIGN

New Financial Support

The Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada is pleased to announce that the Research Campaign has led to the receipt of three generous gifts.

The PFC would like to recognize OrthoCanada as a leading donor for its significant contribution of $100,000 to be provided over three years. This donation will be used to support physiotherapy research under the terms of the One-Stop-Restock program, and to finance the OrthoCanada Research Award on Neck and Back Rehabilitation and Core Stability. The One-Stop-Restock program was designed for Canadian physiotherapy and occupational therapy clinics, specifically to raise funds for PFC research programs, to facilitate the re-ordering process at clinics and to allow clinics to save money. See the following website to learn more: www.orthocanada.com/OSR. The value of the OrthoCanada Research Award is $5,000 and is for the support of treatment development. The terms and conditions associated with the award are available in the Awards section.

The Ontario Physiotherapy Association is generously contributing $33,000 over the next three years towards the establishment of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association Kim Wolny Research Grant (OPARG) in memory of Kim Wolny, Past President of OPA and recognizes innovative leadership in the development of the profession in Ontario. This grant provides support for physiotherapy research projects that focus on new and emerging roles and programs for physiotherapists in the Ontario health system, and investigates potential effects of such roles/programs on health outcomes for Ontarians and health system effectiveness. Projects across the continuum of health services will be considered, though projects with a focus on decreasing wait times, primary health/primary health care, chronic disease management or health promotion/disease prevention will be given preference. An award of $10,000 will be made annually to an applicant for an Ontario-based research project. Application procedures can be found in the Awards section.

The Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (CAMPT) is pledging $16,500 to be paid by 2013 for the creation of the CAMPT Founders Award. The annual award of $5,000 will recognize excellence in research promoting the advancement of the clinical practice of manual and neuromusculoskeletal physiotherapy. Research must fall under one of the following categories Prognosis, Diagnosis, Efficacy, Causation or Knowledge translation. Application procedures can be found in the Awards Section.

We thank all of our donors for their continued support.
